What music to listen to after a breakup?

After a breakup, we almost all want to curl up in our duvet with sad music (and chocolate, tea, hot honey milk… In short, a comforting thing). You might think that this gloomy moment is necessary to let go of bad feelings before getting back in hand. Likewise, listening to sad music sometimes helps to exorcise your emotions. Here is a little playlist to accompany this dark moment:

    • The Script – Breakeven, to let ideas flow through the music
    • REM – Everybody Hurts, because it’s sad but there is hope in the end
    • Gary Jules – Mad World, because melancholy is taken to its extreme for a magnificent song
    • Bill Callahan – Riding for the feeling, because it is the very illustration of these difficult times (and does a lot of good at this time)

The worst is over, you finally decide to give up your duvet (and not just because you want to pee) but it still hurts? You start to put things into perspective while continuing to suffer, it’s time to listen to songs that remind you that love is sad, to feel less alone:

  • The Passenger – Let her go
  • U2 – Song for someone
  • Love will tear us apart
  • Bon Iver or the cover of Birdie – Skinny Love
  •  Arctic Monkeys – Do I wanna know because it’s about the broken heart but rock’n’roll way
  • Charli XCX – Breaking up
  • Tove Lo – Habits (Stay High), we even prefer the remix to the original (note that Tove Lo’s Queen of Clouds is centered around a love story, meeting, passion, stability until the break)
  • Lykke Li – Never gonna love again
  • RODHES – Wishes
  • Daft Punk – Instant Crush, I’m not sure if the song is about love or friendship, but the clip represents a love that is consumed. And because anyway, we never tire of it.

Enough listened to sad songs, one should not either complaint in its sadness! Forget all these dark words of love and avoid them for the next few times, it is now time for joyful and diverse music.

But do not bring out your old selection for all that: the music has a strong power of reminiscence, that is to say, that if you often listened to Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys when you were with your ex, the song will suit you. remember the life you have with him, even if he is not directly related to the song. Imagine if you got into the habit of hearing it in the car, to go to his place: listening to the song again will bring about visions of the road you were taking. It sucks to be sad while listening to such a happy song for a matter of super banal memories – plus. So it’s time to renew your playlist and not just with sad songs! But don’t worry, in a few months, you will be able to re-release Good Vibrations and appreciate her again for what she is. And then, one day, maybe a rainy Sunday, you will have the idea to listen to Hello d’Adele (or this superb cover ) and to think about this past story that you had forgotten …
