Watch out world, here are my financial and life goals for this year.  I know it is 2012, but for me it is the “Year of 10″:

The most important goal

  1. My number one goal is more of a “prayer” because it is something I can not control: I pray that my wife and I have a healthy new baby on or around April 10, 2012 and my goal is to be ready for the challenge of raising this new little one.

Blogging Goals

  1. Establish relationships / partner with at least 10 other bloggers and write a guest post on each of their sites.  (Bloggers, let me know if you are interested)
  2. Search Engine Optimization (SEO):  Get my site to be in the top 10 listings in Google when searching for 10 keywords or phrases that are relevant to my site.  In other words, “I want to be in the top 10 listings for Google searches on keywords like, “financial freedom” or “how to retire wealthy”.
  3. Write 10 “Power Posts”; posts that really get people talking and challenge conventional thinking.
  4. Earn $10,000 in Blogging revenue!  This will be VERY tough!  Still trying to figure out how to do it…  But I like the challenge.
  5. Get my Alexa ranking below 110,000 (it is currently at 190,000)
  6. Comment on at least 10 other web sites and blog posts per week.

Financial Goals

  1. Increase our household savings rate by 10%.
  2. Generate a 10% rate of return on our household investment accounts; hopefully the financial markets will cooperate.
  3. Take the extra $10,000 in revenue earned from blogging and invest right back into blogging and other ventures.
  4. Increase our household net worth by 2x 10% (so 20%; I really wanted this posted to be ‘10‘ focused ;o)

Health and Fitness Goals

  1. Run 10 races this year and one of them has to be a marathon.  I ran the Barcelona marathon in March 2011 and I run regularly so this a fun goal for me.  My Marathon time goal is to break 3:40.
  2. Lose 10 pounds!  I am not doing this because I “need” to lose weight, I am doing this because I know I will feel better just walking around this world if I do.  Plus I will be faster!   I will likely sign-up for the 10-pound challenge at NewlyWedsOnaBudget.com, it starts on January 9th.
  3. Begin a weight training program that puts me in the gym 10 days a month (2 or 3 days per week).  I used to always lift weight but I stopped a few years ago.  This time I am going to do circuit training that is more inline with my running and weight loss goals.

What are your goals for 2012?   Should I add a weight-loss and race tracker on this web site so you can watch my progress or see if I fail in heroic fashion?

  1. Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to
my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her
ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and
it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!

LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell
    someone!

  2. Hi there I am so excited I found your weblog, I really found
you by accident, while I was searching on Yahoo for
something else, Regardless I am here now and would just like to say thanks for a incredible post and a all
round enjoyable blog (I also love the theme/design), I don’t have time to browse it all at the minute but I have book-marked it and also added your RSS feeds, so when I have time I will be back to read a great deal more, Please do keep up the great job.

  3. I’ll immediately snatch your rss feed as I can’t find your email subscription hyperlink or newsletter service.

Do you’ve any? Please permit me know in order that I may subscribe. Thanks.

  4. I like your theme of 10 – great work. I bet you will break your goal of $10k from blogging along with many of your other goals.

    • Thanks for the feedback! I am glad you like my 10-theme, it is Pearl Jam inspired (their first album was “Ten”)… Breaking $10K would be oh so sweet!

  5. Great list of goals, I think you can hit them all if you stay as passionate as you are. Let me know if you want to guest post on my site too.

By the way, my wife and I are expecting our second child on April 9. We can compare notes through the year ;)

    • Thank you for the offer, I will take you up on that as soon as I think of a good topic. April 9th! wow congrats to you! Yes, we should compare notes, we don’t know the sex, we are letting it remain a mystery…

  6. Good goals. I like the emphasis on 10 for each of the goals. Do you have ideas for the 10 power posts? I think those could help you meet some of your other blog goals.

    • I have a few ideas for power posts, but I need to flesh them out a bit more. I think you are right, if I can write 10-12 great posts my other others goals will take care of themselves. Well, except for the exercise goals, I really have to exercise to reach those goals.

  7. These are fantastic goals.

I really like the “power posts” goal.

    • Marissa, writing “power posts” is key, I find myself writing many “everyday posts”, but I think I need to put a really challenging post out there every month. Those are the ones that get readers to your site and keeps them coming back. Let me know if you have any tough topics you would like to see me cover.

  8. I applaud the diversity of your goals and I really like the theme of 10. Nice twist.

I was thinking of putting a mile tracker up too. But I definitely will not be doing a marathon. Maybe a 5 or 10k.

    Good luck this year.

    • Niki, I tried to make my goals “well-rounded” so I am not always stuck behind a computer. I was thinking about a race tracker, a weight tracker and a net worth by % tracker since I don’t wish to reveal my actual net worth number. Do you think that is useful?

  9. Very nice and attainable goals there, good luck in 2012 :D If you ever want to guest post, let me know :)
This is my first time on your site and I have to say it’s very nicely lay out!

  10. I’d like to see you track all these goals so we can watch your Year of 10 progress. And maybe also include a blank template so I can input my goals and track my progress.

Sending prayers to you, your wife and your little one. :)
